Wow.
In the winter, for about five months or from January to May, the lake freezes over but the water is so clear that, from the surface, you can see an astounding 130 feet below you. Transparent and shining in a turquoise color, these masses of broken ice look like shards of glass rising into the sky. They are caused by the slow and unequal pressure in the main body of the packed ice as well as by the unequal structure and temperature.

World of the Ring by Jian Guo
Middle-Earth seems like it’s a pretty happening place: plenty of exotic locales to explore, elves handing out gifts, trees to ride when your footses ache, and treasure available only to those courageous enough to take it. If it ever existed in a Tolkien novel or note, then Jian has probably drawn it: his jaw-droppingly resplendent masterpieces tell just as enthralling a story as the novels they emulate… though in considerably fewer words. The lead image: “A Long Adventure with a Hobbit” is available in print form at Jian’s DeviantArt.

Favorite Movies of All Time || 3. The Secret of Kells (2009)
“I’ve lived through many ages. I’ve seen suffering in the darkness. Yet I have seen beauty thrive in the most fragile of places. I have seen the book. The book that turned darkness into light. ”
This is going to be on RTÉ on New Year’s Eve~
That movie is so GORGEOUS… I have no words.
‘Sankai Juku’
The first series of photos to launch the new Theatre in Pictures project is by Alan Eglinton, a Paris-based freelance photographer. The subject is the Japanese Butoh company, Sankai Juku, and their celebrated work Unetsu – The Egg stands out of Curiosity, first performed in 1986. The two kanji that form the word ‘Unetsu’ (卵熱) translate as egg/ovum and heat/fever. The company was founded in 1975 by Amagatsu Ushio and the name ‘Sankai Juku’ translates as ’studio/school between mountain and sea’. Sankai Juku’s work is an important component of the ‘Second Wave’ of Butoh since it began in the 1960s. The photos included here are of a 2006 production at the Vaison-la-Romaine Dance Festival, France. All images are © copyright of Alan Eglinton.
